The Global Commission on Elections, Democracy and Security, was launched on 4 March 2011 and held its first meeting in Pretoria. The Commission, chaired by Mr Annan, is a joint initiative of the International Institute for Electoral Assistance (International IDEA) and the Kofi Annan Foundation and its aim is to highlight the importance of the integrity of elections to achieving a more secure, prosperous and stable world.
