Over the last three days, President Mkapa and I have held a series of constructive meetings with members of the Government and key national agencies. We have listened intently and we have noted the concerns and challenges expressed.
Next year, Kenya faces one of the most important elections in its history. On the 50th anniversary of self-rule, the Kenyan people will go to the ballot box to make choices that will shape the destiny of their country.
Libya is a difficult situation. As you suggest, the new government is trying to establish law and order and security, but they still have their responsibility to try and show that these embassies are protected, and also to try and find the culprits and hold them accountable. The U.S. should insist at least on that.
