The Foundation works with other organizations to promote food and nutrition security by empowering small holder farmers in Africa, and encouraging investment throughout the agricultural value chain. On November 12, Mr. Annan addressed the America Business Council's 2012 Continuity Forum. In a speech that drew on Mr. Annan's appreciation of the importance of the private sector, he stressed that business is a partner for development, and explored the different ways in which the benefits of private enterprise can be leveraged for public good. In particular, he discussed a range of successful partnerships for development between public actors and members of the private sector, and encouraged the business leaders in the audience to look to these successes for inspiration as they grow and develop their own business.
